Volkswagen Amarok Pickup Unveiled

It's been thirty years since VW released its first and only pickup in 1980 and now VW is set to enter the market again with the Amarok.

The Amarok is a real truck with a body-on-frame design. It can haul 2,300 pounds and tow up to 5,600 pounds when it is powered by VW's 2.0L turbo diesel with 163-hp and 295 lb-ft. of torque. Another smaller diesel will join the lineup in mid-2010 in addition to a direct-injected gasoline engine
. The Amarok is available with three different drive configurations: rear-wheel-drive, full time AWD and part time AWD. At launch the Amarok will only be offered as a four door "double cab", but a "single cab" will be available in the first half of 2011.
